Baby Derek's Big Day

Derek was such a good boy the day of the surgery. I was worried that he would want to eat before he could - but he really was content. They gave us big TCH pj's for Derek to wear and Mimi held him tight. Thank goodness for my family! With Tyler at home recovering and in pain, I really needed someone up at the hospital with me. My mom stayed up there with me until we got a room and I am so thankful!

I was worried about the surgery and Derek being so little, but he did great! When they took him from me he was wide awake and alert and almost smiling. Mommy was relieved but sad.

After 45 minutes, they paged us and we got to see him in recovery. I couldn't get to him fast enough and feed him. A nurse was holding him and rocking him and I wanted to hold him so bad and comfort him. I think that is when it officially hit me. I was so relieved to have him done with surgery, to have Tyler done with surgery and I could finally breathe. It was really hard to see Derek coming out of the anesthesia and hooked up to so many wires. We hung out in recovery for a while since the hospital was full and we were waiting for a room.

When Cameryn had her tonsils out when she was 2, she hated the monitor that they strapped to her arm. Mommy said it gave her an "E.T. finger" but she still hated it. Little Derek had one too and I had to take a picture to show Cameryn.

They finally got us a room and we made the trek to the Abercrombie Tower. Mimi stayed until we got settled and then went home to help Papa take care of Cameryn. Derek and Mommy hung out overnight to make sure he got his antibiotics and didn't get a fever. At 2:15am when Derek was wide awake and wouldn't let me put him down, I texted Tyler and sure enough he was awake too. In pain. Although I hated that he was in pain, it was nice to know that he was awake too.
Baby Derek and "Spot" the puppy that Mimi bought t o keep Derek company. Derek is doing fine, he still has some pain when going to the bathroom and we are waiting to see if his Jaundice goes away now that he can poop better. He has his 2 month appt. on Wednesday with sister Cameryn -she has her 4 yr. appt. too. They both get shots so it should be another adventure. We will keep you updated. Hopefully this will be the last of surgery pictures for a long time!

2 Boys... 2 Surgeries. Mommy Tired!

So here's how the story begins...Cameryn and Derek smiling and enjoying their day - right before we go to the Doctor for Derek. Cameryn loves being a BIG SIS!

Derek is 7 weeks and was told to visit the pediatric specialist about his "potty" problem. His last few visits to the pediatrician revealed that he has a slight allergy to cow's milk - now mommy is off the ice cream and milk - an that his bottom is a bit too small for his potty. The pediatrician wanted us to get it checked out by a specialist. Probably nothing, but just wanted to make sure, she said...

After a test by the specialist, he told us that Derek needed surgery to make his anal opening larger. Scientific term was Anal Stenosis, and that he needed to have an Anal Plasty. Nice words huh! The D. said it was like Derek was pooping through a pin hole. Ouch! So we scheduled his surgery which landed the day after Daddy's ankle surgery. . .OUCH!

Daddy & Cameryn before they wheeled him to the operating room. Tyler had pain in his ankle since a basketball injury in January. He visited my friend from high school who is an ankle and foot specialist and found out that he had torn 2 ligaments. He could either wear a brace and be in pain the rest of his life, or have surgery and get it taken care of now. Being that he is still young and wants to play with our kids without having to put a brace on every time, he chose the surgery. I don't blame him.

Derek and Daddy after Daddy's surgery. Little does Derek know he will be feeling the same way in little than 24 hours. My two patients. We found out that Daddy's injury was more than expected and he had torn 3 ligaments. Dr. Mac said that if he had let this go and put more pressure on it, his ankle ligaments would've ruptured.

Derek giving Daddy love before bed. Cameryn is off to stay at Mimi & Papa's house and we prepare for the big day. Mommy and Derek need to leave at 6am for Texas Children's. So early!

Derek is 6 weeks old!

I can't believe it has been 6 weeks already since we had baby Derek. Time truly flies with #2! He weighs 12 lbs. 7oz. and slept throught the night last night, 9pm - 5:45am. I was SHOCKED!!!!! Cameryn didn't even think about doing this until 12 weeks. And, it only happened once :) Let's hope he makes it a habit! He is smiling, cooing and so laid back. What a precious little man!

Mother's Day 2009 and More. . .

Wednesday's at Mimi's is starting to become a tradition! We love to swim, play in the blue sand, climb on Papa's new tree house, chase the dogs and eat homemade popsicles. I think we opened the pool officially this visit with multiple trips down the slide and cannonballs off the jumping rock. Nothing beats cooling off on a hot day than Mimi's and Papa's pool!

I Want to Play Tennis!

Every year Tyler and my Dad (Papa) play tennis together in the H.O.T.T. (Houston Oilman's Tennis Tournament) and the W.O.T.T. (World's Oilman's Tennis Tournament). I think that is the only time they actually play all year :) It has become a yearly tradition to go out and watch them play and enjoy the free food, drinks and fun. I sometimes get to play too when I am not pregnant :) So, this year we brought both Cameryn and Derek out for the fun. It was hot and humid but we survived. I think Cameryn has a new thing to add to her list that she wants to do when she grows up. Hopefully she can one day play with Daddy or Papa at the tournament. I think she would do great!

Cameryn's HERO. . .

I want to play "Tenist", show me daddy!

Daddy's other lucky charm!

Cameryn's 1st Church Pre-School Choir Program

Cameryn loves to sing! She sings while she is playing, eating, coloring, bathing, showering and even when she is going to the restroom. She sings pretty much all day long!

Her favorite songs to sing are the ones she makes up, daddy's favorite songs from the radio and Taylor Swift's song - "Love story".

She also loves to sing about Jesus.

I was hoping that one day she would get to sing at church in the choir and within days of talking to Tyler about this, I got an email that our new church was having a Spring Pre-School Choir program. I was thrilled - but practices started one week after Derek was born. I was determined to have her participate so I made our 1st Derek outing a trip to choir practice. He slept the entire time.

So, I figured this would be her chance to sing on stage, and sing some of her favorite "Jesus Songs."

She did great! She memorized the songs so fast, that even when we missed a few practices she didn't miss a note. Plus, mommy and Cam enjoyed singing these songs everyday in the car - she made me play the CD over and over again :) And, special thanks to Grandma Lynda for coming with Cameryn to her very first practice.
